How to Order

IMPORTANT: Ordering a Custom-built guitar requires great attention to detail and proper research before going ahead with the build. Generally, once started a Custom build cannot be changed, unless it is a simple change like a change of pickups or hardware. I am building you your dream guitar. You must be 100% certain on your specifications for your guitar. Every custom build starts with a build sheet. This is the "blueprint" of your guitar. Together we will create the build sheet for your dream guitar and then we will start.

I encourage you to fully research the information I present here and do any other research as you see fit so you can make informed decisions for your build. I will work closely with you to help finalize your decisions and will answer any questions you have and provide extra information if needed. Please note and expect that the information I provide may be based entirely on my experience and my opinion. You don't have to listen to me (but you probably should.) It is you who will have the final say.

A Custom guitar is the ultimate guitar. It should be everything you have every wanted and everything you expected from the choices you made. Every Gaskell Custom left hand guitar built is intended to meet and surpass expectations.

Once started I require you have patience. It may take up to 9 months or longer to complete your build for any number of reasons relevant to the build process.

Step 1

Choose your shape. What style of guitar do you want? Choose from any of these shapes. Or if you have your own shape I will need to see it and make templates. There are extra charges for templating designs that I do not already build.

Step 2

Choose your tone woods: I need to know what tone woods to build your guitar with. There are many different types of tone woods and their combinations do make and define the essential sound of your guitar. I will ask you what type of music you like to play or will play with your custom guitar. This will help decide what tone woods not to select. Some tone woods are extremely expensive due to international trade restrictions. I have some rare tone woods that if you know anything about the wood trade, you won't believe. Read my information about tone woods to help make decisions on what we will use. NOTE. If you are interested in other mahogany species than the "usual" then I encourage you to read my article What is Mahogany? Part 2 first.

Step 3

Choose your options: This is where the fun begins. Now you need to decide on what you want in your guitar. How is it going to sound? How is it going to play? That means the electronics you want, control arrangements, pickup choices, tuners, hardware, nut material, fret wire, adornments such as binding, inlays, etc. This information is all available on our Pricing page. Click on the button below.

Step 4

Decide and finalize your build sheet: Send me an email with all your options listed in bullet point form. We will discuss. You may need to rethink things after we have discussed. There is no hurry. Take as long as you need. Once you are fully decided I will put together a formal build sheet which you will need to approve and sign off on before I start your build. A deposit to start is required. Once I have begun your build your deposit is not refundable. We both need to be 100% certain that what you want is what will be built. I build to a build sheet. Your approval of the build sheet is the trigger to start.

You may want to double check everything is right and you are comfortable to go ahead. Click on our Custom Shop FAQ for more information, especially if you do not live in Australia as the question of transportation to your country will need to be addressed. Unfortunately, since the SCAMdemic transportation costs for anything to go anywhere in the world are outrageously expensive now. And there are taxes you have to pay to your own government upon receipt. Be aware of these before you part with your money!
